Oklahoma 2A Cross Country Final Rankings 2017: Boise City's Girls Came From Nowhere (Poll-Wise)

The October 2017 2A polls will not be framed and hung anywhere. The girls’ ballot had Cordell No. 1; Cordell didn’t win. It had Boise City No. 5; Boise City won by 52 points. When the poll’s fifth choice wins by 52, the poll wasn’t ranking teams — it was guessing, badly.

Girls’ poll, October 9th: Cordell, Watonga, Hooker, Christian Heritage, Boise City. State: Boise City-Keyes 45, Hooker 97. The champion was the poll’s No. 5, winning by 52 points. That’s the biggest poll-to-podium jump in the 2017 archive — the ballot missed the winner by four full slots.

Boys’ poll, October 8th: Mooreland, Hooker, Watonga, Walters, Regent Prep. State: Hooker 109, Boise City-Keyes 151. The poll’s No. 2 took the title — a mild correction, and the only thing the 2A polls got remotely right all year.

Regent Prep’s Ellie Gilbreath won the girls’ individual title — her third straight 2A crown; Boise City-Keyes’ Colten Brown won the boys’ title.

Boise City’s girls went from poll No. 5 to state champs by 52 points — the poll is a weather report; Boise City was the storm.
