Oklahoma 6A Cross Country Final Rankings 2019: Jenks' Girls and Deer Creek's Boys Did Exactly What the Poll Said

The 2019 6A final poll was unusually prophetic — the state meet agreed on both sides.
The 2019 6A final poll was unusually prophetic — the state meet agreed on both sides.

The final 2019 6A polls, posted October 8th, read like a formality: Jenks’ girls on top, Deer Creek’s boys on top. For once, the state meet agreed with the pollsters on everything. When the poll and the finish line agree this completely, there’s only one thing to say: good job, everybody. Even a stopped poll is right twice a decade.

Girls’ poll, October 8th: Jenks, Owasso, Deer Creek, Edmond Santa Fe, Sapulpa. State: Jenks 53, Owasso 91. The poll’s top two finished top two, in order. No controversy, no recount, no angry emails to the contributors — just a clean confirmation.

Boys’ poll, October 8th: Deer Creek, Westmoore, Union, Edmond Memorial, Mustang. State: Deer Creek 47, Westmoore 85. Again the poll’s 1-2 held, in order. Deer Creek’s boys won going away, and the pollsters get to keep their credibility for another year.

The individual titles went to Broken Arrow’s Payton Hinkle on the girls’ side and Mustang’s Gabe Simonsen on the boys’ side — Simonsen’s second straight 6A crown, the middle leg of what would become three in a row (2018–2020).

2019 6A: the poll said it, the meet confirmed it, and everybody went home happy — a rarity worth savoring.
