Repeat Offenders: Oklahoma’s Multi-Year Sprint Kings

Winning a state title is hard. Winning it twice — with every rival in your class spending a full year gunning for you — is a different species of achievement. A scroll through the 100m past-champions archive reveals Oklahoma’s recent sprint dynasties, and the list is longer than you’d think.
The roll call of repeat offenders: Gage Gibbons (Deer Creek, 6A — 2025 and 2026). Kyler Brown (B.T. Washington, 5A — 2024 and 2025). Damontre Patterson (Sulphur, 4A — 2023 and 2024). Jonathon Brite (Marlow, 3A — 2024 and 2025). James Beasley (Okemah, 2A — 2024 and 2025). Mark Bishop (Garber, 1A — 2024 and 2025).
Read that again: in both 2024 and 2025, five of the six classes were won by repeat champions. Only 6A changed hands (Kayleb Barnett of Broken Arrow in 2024, Gibbons in 2025). For two straight years, if you wanted to win the 100m in Oklahoma, you had to go through the guy who won it last year — and almost nobody did.
The 2026 changing of the guard finally broke most of the streaks: Quinton Mask (Lawton MacArthur) took 5A in 10.18, Caleb Peterson (Lincoln Christian) took 4A in 10.69, Wade White (Rejoice Christian) took 3A in 10.87, Cruz Gillespie (Oklahoma Christian Academy) took 2A in 10.74, Nash Harman (Cyril) took 1A in 10.88. Only Gibbons held serve. The target on his back must have been enormous; he ran 10.32 anyway.
And for the quarter-mile crowd, the 2026 400m champions: Brody Pitt (Broken Arrow, 6A, 47.03), Alec Shumard (Newcastle, 5A, 47.99), Greydon Howell (Broken Bow, 4A, 47.19), Blaze Buchanan (Holland Hall, 3A, 48.56), Hudson Harrison (Carnegie, 2A, 50.43), Carmello Williamson (Oaks Mission, 1A, 49.07). Six new names. We’ll see how many of them become repeat offenders.
