Bishop McGuinness won eleven straight 4A girls titles, 1992–2002 — the longest championship streak in the Oklahoma XC archive.

The October polls debate who’s No. 1. Bishop McGuinness spent eleven years answering a different question: who’s No. 2? From 1992 through 2002, the Irish won eleven consecutive 4A girls state titles — the longest championship streak in the entire Oklahoma cross country archive, boys or girls, any class. A decade plus one. An entire generation of 4A girls ran their whole high school careers knowing exactly who was winning state in November.

Eleven straight is the mountain; here’s the rest of the range. Tulsa Union won five straight 3A girls titles from 1977 to 1981 — the first dynasty of the girls’ archive, which begins in 1975. Bishop Kelley won five straight 5A titles from 2017 to 2021, the modern-era standard. Jenks did four straight in 5A twice — 1987–1990 and 1999–2002. Plainview won four straight 3A titles (2009–2012); Marietta immediately followed with four straight of its own (2013–2016), turning 3A into an eight-year two-program duopoly. Hooker won four straight 2A titles from 2021 to 2024.

What’s striking is the clustering: the great streaks come in waves, and they tend to come with individual dynasties attached. Bishop McGuinness’s eleven-year run includes Amanda Jordan’s four straight individual 4A titles (1997–2000) and Ashley Boothe’s three straight (1994–1996). Marietta’s 3A reign overlapped Daisey Vanmeter’s three straight individual crowns at Henryetta (2013–2015) — a rival’s star shining inside someone else’s dynasty, which is exactly how dynasties get remembered.

The pollsters’ role in all of this? Mostly ceremonial. You don’t need a ballot to tell you who’s winning when one program wins eleven straight — you need a ballot for the other five classes. The streaks are the archive’s way of reminding us that October rankings are entertainment and November dynasties are history.

Eleven straight. The polls debate October; Bishop McGuinness owned November for a decade plus one.
